ENSAT's team of telecommunications managers recently constructed
six (6) fiber optic repeater sites along Route 99 in the San Joaquin
Valley to link existing systems in the San Francisco Bay Area to
the Los Angeles Basin. Project scope of work consisted of grading,
construction of shelter and fuel tank pads, installation of grounding
and electrical systems, installation of emergency propane/diesel
power systems, and installation of equipment shelters and generator
shelters. Due to environmental constraints, the project required
special adaptations, including a five foot increase in the elevation
of all buildings on the site due to floodplain constraints. ENSAT
engineers devised innovative solutions to these constraints, including
subgrade footers, and an elevated steel platform structure. Target
project completion date is March 2000
